(S)-[3-(N,N-Dibenzylamino)-2-hydroxypropoxy]-2,3-diaminobenzene (1 g, 2.7 mmol) was dissolved in N,N Dimethylformamide (10 mL) and imidazole (0.27 g, 4.0 mmol) and tert-butyldimethylsilyl chloride (0.6 g, 4.0 mmol) were added. The solution was stirred at ambient temperature for 18 hours and then was partitioned between chloroform and water. The combined organic extracts were dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to give the desired benzimidazole 1.3 g (96%). NMR.
