A solution of 6-benzyloxy-2-(dimethylamino)benzo[b]thiophene (2.5 g, 8.8 mmol) and 3-methoxy-4-[(1-pyrrolidinyl)methyl]benzoyl chloride (3.0 g, 1.3 equiv) in chlorobenzene (30 mL) was heated at 135° C. under nitrogen for 2 h. The cooled reaction mixture was diluted with brine (100 mL), neutralized with NaOH solution (5.0 M), and extracted with dichloromethane (100 mL×3). The combined organic layers were dried with sodium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. Chromatography with Et3N:EtOAc (5:95) afforded the product as a brown oil (3.7 g, 84%).
