To a solution of 2-(4-bromophenoxy)ethanol (10.94 g, 50.4 mmol), in dry DMF (50 mL), was added t-butyldimethylsilyl chloride (7.6 g , 50.4 mmol) and imidazole (3.77 g , 55.5 mmol). The reaction was stirred at ambient temperature for 18 h, then partitioned with hexane (300 mL) and water (300 mL). The aqueous layer was extracted with hexane (3×100 mL). The combined organic extracts were dried (MgSO4) and the solvent removed under reduced pressure to give the desired product as an oil (16.6 g, 99%).
