Using the procedure of Example 3, 2.7 g of (1R,trans) 2,2-dimethyl-3-[(E)-3-methoxy-3-oxo-1-propenyl]-cyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid chloride in 12.5 ml of benzene and 1 ml of ethanol were reacted to obtain 1.31 g of ethyl (1R,trans) 2,2-dimethyl-3-[(E)-3-methoxy-3-oxo-1-propenyl]-cyclopropane-1-carboxylate with a specific rotation of [α]D20 =+93°±1.5° (c=1% in chloroform).
