Using the procedure of Example 3, 12.5 ml of 1 M/l of (1R,trans) 2,2-dimethyl-3-[(E)-3-methoxy-3-oxo-1-propenyl]-cyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid chloride in benzene and 1.35 ml of benzyl alcohol were reacted to obtain 1.77 g of benzyl (1R,trans) 2,2-dimethyl-3[(E)-3-methoxy-3-oxo-1-propenyl]-cyclopropane-1-carboxylate with a specific rotation of [α]D20 =+47.5°±1.5° (c=1% in chloroform).
