Using the procedure of Example 3, 1.51 g of (1R,cis) 2,2-dimethyl-3-[(E)-3-methoxy-3-oxo-1-propenyl]-cyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid chloride in benzene and 0.754 ml of tert.-butanol were reacted to obtain 0.235 g of tert.-butyl (1R,cis) 2,2-dimethyl-3-[(E)-3-methoxy-3-oxo-1-propenyl]-cyclo-propane-1-carboxylate with a specific rotation of [α]D20 =-23°±1.5°(c=0.9% in chloroform).
