Procedure
5 g. of (Z)-11-heptadecenol-tetrahydropyranyl-ether (Formula III, R=CH3, Y=tetrahydropyranyl) are dissolved in 30 ml. of methanol. 4-5 drops of hydrochloric acid are added to the solution, and the mixture is stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The reaction mixture is poured into water and extracted with 100 ml. of methylene chloride. The extract is washed with water, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered, and the solvent is evaporated in vacuo. 2.8 g. of (Z)-11-heptadecenol (Formula II, R=CH3) are obtained as a residue.
