Procedure
To a solution of 4,14-pentadecadien-1-ol (15.0 g) and triethylamine (14 ml.) in dry methylene chloride (320 ml.) at -8° C. is added methanesulfonylchloride (5.73 ml.), dropwise. The reaction mixture is stirred at -10° C. for 30 minutes and then diluted with methylene chloride, extracted with ice-water (250 ml.), followed by cold 10% HCl (200 ml.); cold saturated sodium bicarbonate (200 ml.) and cold brine (200 ml.). The organic phase is dried (MgSO4) and the solvent removed in vacuo to provide 4,14-pentadecadien-1-yl methanesulfonate as a clear oil.
