Procedure

Thus, 9-methoxy-2,3,4,4a,5,6,7,7a-octahydro-1H-benzo[4,5]furo[3,2-e]isoquinoline, when treated with allyl bromide in the presence of a base such as potassium carbonate, gives 3-allyl-9-methoxy-2,3,4,4a,5,6,7,7a-octahydro-1H-benzo[4,5]furo[3,2-e]isoquinoline (R1 =CH2CH=CH2 ; R2 =MeO; R3, R4, R5 =H). Also, thienyl or furyl carbonyl chlorides followed by reduction with lithium aluminum hydride give 3-(2-thienylmethyl or 2-furylmethyl-9-methoxy-2,3,4,4a,5,6,7,7a-octahydro-1H-benzo[4,5]furo[3,2-e]isoquinoline ##STR81##
