Trifluoroacetic acid (10 mL) was added to a solution of tert-butyl 4-(2-chloro-5-fluorophenyl)-2-phenyl-2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole-1-carboxylate (14, 320 mg, 0.856 mmol, 1 equiv) in dichloromethane (40 mL) at 23° C., and the resulting mixture was stirred for 30 min, then concentrated to give 4-(2-chloro-5-fluorophenyl)-2-phenyl-2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole (1-5) as a TFA salt (brown oil). LRMS m/z (M+H) 274.1 found, 274.1 required.
