Triethylamine (122 μL, 0.874 mmol, 5.00 equiv) and 2-chloroethanesulfonyl chloride (29 mg, 0.175 mmol, 1.00 equiv) were added sequentially to a solution of 4-(2,5-difluorophenyl)-2-phenyl-2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole (2-4, 45 mg, 0.175 mmol, 1 equiv) in dichloromethane (10 mL) at 23° C., and the resulting mixture was stirred for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was partitioned between saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution (50 mL) and ethyl acetate (2×50 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over sodium sulfate and were concentrated to provide 4-(2,5-difluorophenyl)-2-phenyl-1-(vinylsulfonyl)-2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrrole (8-1) as a brown oil. LRMS m/z (M+H) 348.0 found, 348.1 required.
