To a solution of (3aR,5R,6S,7R,7aR)-5-(acetoxymethyl)-2-(dimethylamino)-5,6,7,7a-tetrahydro-3aH-pyrano[3,2-d]thiazole-6,7-diyl diacetate (1.65 g, 4.41 mmol) in methanol (20 mL) was added potassium carbonate (25 mg, 0.18 mmol). The resulting mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature to yield a solid. This was collected by filtration, washed with cold methanol and dried. The product 7 was obtained as a light yellow solid (1.05 g, 94%). (ES, m/z): [M+H]+ 248.9; 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 6.33-6.35 (d, J=6.3 Hz, 1H), 4.29-4.33 (t, J=6.0 Hz, 1H), 4.16 (s, 1H), 3.76-3.89 (m, 2H), 3.70 (s, 2H), 3.03 (s, 6H).
