Procedure

To a solution of methyl 1-(4-bromo-2-chlorophenyl)-9-chloro-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimido[1,2-a]benzimidazole-6-carboxylate (2.00 g, 4.39 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (15.0 mL) was added lithium tetrahydroborate (382.8 mg, 17.58 mmol) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at 40° C. for 15 hrs. The starting material wasn't consumed completely. The reaction mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 4.5 hrs. After cooling, the reaction mixture was quenched with water at 0° C. The solvent was concentrated and the precipitate was collected by filtration and washed with water to give the title compound as a colorless solid (1.70 g, 3.97 mmol, 90%).
