The reaction of 3,4-dinitrobenzoyl chloride (prepared from 3,4-dinitrobenzoic acid, 500 mg and SOCl2, 10 mL) with benzyl glycinate.PTS salt (794 mg, 2.358 mmol) in the presence of triethylamine (1.0 mL, 7.07 mmol) as described in intermediate 1 gave the title compound as an yellow color solid (780 mg, 92%), mp 150-152° C. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 8.37 (1H, br s), 8.17 (1H, d, J=8.0 Hz), 8.00 (1H, d, J=7.6 Hz), 7.39 (5H, s), 6.79 (1H, br s), 5.26 (2H, s), 4.31 (2H, d, J=4.0 Hz); LC-MS (negative ion mode): m/z 358 (M−H)−.
