To a solution of ethyl 2-hydroxy-4-phenyl-3-(2-(2-phenylthiazol-4-yl)nicotinamido)-butanoate (1.31 g, 2.69 mmol) in THF (40 ml) LiOH (0.14 g, 5.85 mmol) in water (10 ml) was added at 10° C., the mixture stirred for 1 hour at room temperature and then for 2 hours at 60° C. The mixture then was concentrated under reduced pressure, water and 3 ml of 2n HCl added, poured into 300 ml of a mixture of dichloromethane and 5% acetone. The organic layer was dried, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 1.19 g of the title acid;
