Procedure

Ethyl 4-(2,8-dimethyl-3,4-dihydro-1H-pyrido[4,3-b]indol-5(2H)-yl)-3-(4-fluorophenyl)but-2-enoate (50 mg, 0.123 mmol; prepared according to General Method 5) in 40% aqueous methyl amine (1 mL) was heated overnight at 100° C. The reaction mixture was cooled to RT and diluted with water (5 mL). A white solid precipitated out which was filtered and dried under vacuum. 1H NMR (CD3OD, HCl salt) δ (ppm): 7.60 (m, 2H), 7.30 (d, 1H), 7.20 (m, 3H), 7.10 (m, 1H), 7.0 (d, 1H), 4.70 (m, 1H), 4.35 (m, 1H), 3.80 (m, 2H), 3.60 (m, 2H), 3.30 (m, 3H), 3.15 (s, 3H), 2.55 (s, 3H), 2.40 (s, 2H).
