By a procedure similar to that of example 1.85.3, starting from 3-[4-(methylthio)phenyl]-1-phenylpropan-1-one, (Z)-ethyl 5-[4-(methylthio)phenyl]-3-phenylpent-2-enoate and (E)-ethyl 5-[4-(methylthio)phenyl]-3-phenylpent-2-enoate were obtained as colourless oils.
