Procedure

To a solution of methyl 3-(2-methylpiperidin-1-yl)-2-oxo-1,2-dihydroquinoxaline-6-carboxylate (520 mg, 1.73 mmol) in dichloromethane (60 ml) was added pyridine (690 mg, 8.72 mmol) followed by the addition of Tf2O (1.22 g, 4.32 mmol), and the resulting solution was stirred overnight at room temperature. The reaction was quenched by the addition of ice-water (200 ml) and extracted with dichloromethane (2×30 ml). The organic layers were combined, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to afford methyl 3-(2-methylpiperidin-1-yl)-2-(trifluoromethylsulfonyloxy)quinoxaline-6-carboxylate as red oil (880 mg, crude).
