Procedure

To a solution of methyl 2-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-(piperazin-1-yl)quinoxaline-6-carboxylate (180 mg, 0.59 mmol) in dichloromethane (10 ml) was added Et3N (202 mg, 2 mmol) and methanesulfonyl chloride (110 mg, 0.98 mmol). The resulting solution was stirred for 1 hour at room temperature. The reaction was then quenched by the addition of ice-water (20 ml) and extracted with dichloromethane (3×15 ml). The organic layers were combined, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and concentrated in vacuo to afford methyl 2-(4-fluorophenyl)-3-(4-(methylsulfonyl)piperazin-1-yl)quinoxaline-6-carboxylate as a yellow solid (0.14 g, 70%).
