Procedure
To 12 ml of methanol at 0° C. was added 1.55 g (41.1 mmol, 1.7 eq) of NaBH4, followed by a solution of 1-(2,6-dichloro-3-fluorophenyl)ethanone (5.0 g, 24.1 mmol, 1.0 eq) in 10 ml of methanol. The reaction was warmed to room temperature (r.t.) and stirred for 2 hours. A 1.0M HCl solution was added, and the solution was extracted with dichloromethane (DCM), dried, and evaporated to a white solid, 5.6 g, in 111% crude yield. The product was used for next reaction without further purification.
