A solution of tert-butyl 4-[4-(6-methyl-5-nitropyridin-3-yl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl]piperidine-1-carboxylate (7.7 g) and N—N-dimethylformamide-dimethylacetal (DMF-DMA) (10g) in 50 ml of DMF was heated at 90° C. overnight and cooled to room temperature. The solvent was evaporated and the residue dissolved in DCM, which was washed with sat. NaHCO3 and brine, and evaporated to give a red solid, 9.0 g of crude product.
