Procedure

5-Nitro-2-{4-[4-(4-tetrazol-1-yl-phenoxymethyl)-thiazol-2-yl]-piperidin-1-yl}-pyrimidine (Example 192) (1.07 mmol), ammonium chloride (3 eq.) and iron powder (3 eq.) were suspended in EtOH:THF:H2O (40:20:10) and heated at 100° C. for 5 hours. The hot reaction mixture was filtered through a pad of celite and the filtrate was concentrated. The resulting oil was dissolved in DMF and water and extracted with ethylacetate. The organic layer was washed with water, brine and dried over sodium sulfate. The resulting filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. Purification using silica gel chromatography (DCM/MeOH 98:2) provided the expected product. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6): δ 9.96 (1H, s), 7.97 (2H, m), 7.90 (2H, m), 7.63 (1H, s), 5.19 (2H, s), 4.44 (2H, m), 3.73 (1H, m), 2.97 (2H, m), 2.20 (2H, m), 1.95 (2H, m).
