A mixture of N-[(5-acetyl-2-chlorophenyl)methyl]acetamide (13.0 g, 57.8 mmol; prepared according to a procedure described in EP 1586552-A1) and N,N-dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal (13.8 g, 115.8 mmol) in toluene (130 mL) was heated at 105° C. overnight. The reaction mixture was then concentrated, and the resulting solid was washed with diethyl ether and n-pentane to yield the title product as a solid (10.0 g).
