A solution of methyl 2-(6-bromo-4-(1,1-dimethylethylsulfinamido)-2-phenylchroman-4-yl)acetate (427 mg, 0.89 mmol) in MeOH (7 mL) and 4 M HCl solution in 1,4-dioxane (14 mL) is stirred at rt for 30 min. The solvent is removed under reduced pressure to give 418 mg methyl 2-(4-amino-6-bromo-2-phenylchroman-4-yl)acetate HCl salt as a white foam, which is used for next step without further purification. MS ESI+ve m/z 376 (M+H)+.
