Procedure

A mixture of a crude product (185 mg) of 2-[(benzylamino)methyl]-6-bromothieno[3,2-d]pyrimidin-4(3H)-one, 37% aqueous formaldehyde solution (1 ml) and tetrahydrofuran (2 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. The precipitate was collected by filtration, and washed successively with water and ethyl acetate to give a crude product (104 mg) of the title compound as a pale-yellow solid.
