Procedure
To a stirred mixture of trans-4-[2-(4-benzofuran-3-yl-piperidin-1-yl)-ethyl]-cyclohexylamine dihydrochloride (intermediate A) (100 mg, 0.25 mmol) in dichloromethane (1.5 ml) was added at room temperature triethylamine (88.7 mg, 122 μl, 0.876 mmol) and methanesulfonyl chloride (43 mg, 29.2 μl, 376 μmol). The mixture was allowed to stir at room temperature for 18 h, and was afterwards evaporated. The crude material was further purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (dichloromethane/MeOH/NH4OH 150:10:1) and trituration with dichloromethane (1 ml) and heptane (5 mL) for 30 min to yield the title compound as a white solid (62 mg, 61%), MS (ISP) m/z=405.4 [(M+H)+], mp 142° C.
