2-(2-(1-Methyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridin-4-yl)ethyl)isoindoline-1,3-dione (230 mg, 0.8 mmol) in conc. HCl (25 mL) was stirred at 95° C. for 18 hours. H2O (20 mL) was added and then extracted with ethyl acetate (3×30 mL). The aqueous was concentrated under reduce pressure to give 4-(2-aminoethyl)-1-methylpyridin-2(1H)-one hydrochloride (130 mg, 85%). LC-MS: 153 [M+H]+, tR=0.42 min.
