Reaction Steps
26.0 g (0.126 mol) of 3-methoxy-3-phenyl-2,4-dioxa-bicyclo[3,2,0]heptane (stereoisomer mixture) and 17.1 g (0.16 mol) of trimethylchlorosilane in 70 ml of methylene chloride are heated to the reflux for 14 hours. Evaporation and fractional distillation in vacuo gives 25.9 g (98%) of trans-1-chloro-2-benzoyloxy-cyclobutane. Boiling point0.35 94°-95°, melting point 20°.
