Procedure
To 1.0 g of ethyl 1-(3-benzyloxycarbonylamino-4,6-difluorophenyl)-7-chloro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylate were added 4 ml of 12N hydrochloric acid and 8 ml of acetic acid. The solution was heated at reflux for 3 hours and stirred at room temperature overnight. The solid precipitated in the reaction solution was collected by filtration and successively washed with ethanol, chloroform and diethyl ether to give 550 mg of the title compound.
