To 15 ml of isopropyl alcohol, 2.7 g of 2-amino-5-ethyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole and 1.3 g of 4'-bromomethyl-2-cyanobiphenyl were added, followed by heating under reflux for 3 hours. After the reaction mixture was cooled, crystals so precipitated were collected by filtration, washed successively with isopropyl alcohol and diethyl ether and then dried, whereby 2.53 g of the title compound was obtained.
