To a mixed solution of 7.5 ml of isopropyl alcohol and 2.5 ml of water, 2.7 g of 2-amino-5-ethyl-1,3,4-thiadiazole and 1.3 g of 4'-bromomethyl-2-cyanobiphenyl were added, followed by heating under reflux for 2 hours. After the reaction mixture was cooled, the crystals so precipitated were collected by filtration, washed successively with isopropyl alcohol and diethyl ether and then dried, whereby 2.11 g of the title compound was obtained.
