A 12.5 g (47.4 mmol) sample of CBZ-L-proline (Aldrich) was dissolved in 250 mL of methanol and 1.7 mL of acetyl chloride was added. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 hours. The solvents were removed, the residue was dissolved in CHCl3, and this solution was washed with NaHCO3 solution, dried, filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified on a silica gel column, eluting with 1:1 ethyl acetate:hexane to give 14 g of the title compound.
