Procedure
32 mg of p-toluene sulfonyl chloride was added to a solution of 20 mg of 9-benzyl-1-methylthiocarbazole-2-acetamide, as obtained in Example 75, in 0.6 ml of pyridine at room temperature. The reaction mixture was then heated to 60° C. and stirred for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was then cooled to room temperature and water was added. The aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate, and the organic extract was washed with a 0.5N aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated by evaporation under reduced pressure. The resulting residue was subjected to column chromatography using 50 mg of silica gel using, as eluent, a 4:1 by volume mixture of hexane and ethyl acetate to yield 18 mg of the title compound as an oil.
