Procedure
A mixture of 3-propanoyl-4-chloro-8-(2-methylthioethoxy)quinoline (0.60 g, 1.9 mmol) and o-toluidine (0.25 g, 2.3 mmol) in acetonitrile was heated to 55° C. and stirred for 3.5 h. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was partitioned between methylene chloride and a 10% sodium carbonate solution. The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate and evaporated. Chromatography (SiO2 ; CH2Cl2 :EtOAc 60:40) gave 0.45 g (61%) of the title compound.
