Reaction Steps
11 mmol of sodium are dissolved in 100 ml of methanol. After cooling the reaction mixture using an ice bath, 4.5 mmol of methyl thioglycolate and then 3.7 mmol of the compound obtained in Step B are added. After 2 hours' reaction, 100 ml of water are added, bringing about the formation of a precipitate, which is filtered off and then dried, allowing the to expected product to be isolated.
