Procedure

Methyl chloroformate (0.97 g, 0.8 ml, 10.3 mmol) was added in one portion to a suspension of N,1,3,3,5,5-hexamethylcyclohexanamine hydrochloride (5-20) (1.13 g, 5.13 mmol) and Na2CO3 (1.63 g, 15.4 mmol) in THF (30 ml). The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 6 h, and then it was diluted with water (50 ml) and extracted with ether (3*30ml). The combined organic phases were washed with 10% K2SO4, saline, dried over MgSO4, filtered and evaporated. The crude product was purified by flash chromatography, eluting with hexane-ethyl acetate mixture (6:1) to give 0.90 g (78%) of (15) as an oil.
