4-Cyano-3-(2,2,2-trifluoro-ethoxy)-benzoic acid methyl ester from step 1 (1.6 g, 6.2 mmol ) was dissolved in THF (62 ml). LiBH4 in THF (2 M, 6.2 ml, 12.4 mmol) was added. The reaction mixture was heated to 70° C. for 3 hours. The reaction was quenched carefully with 3N HCl and then extracted with EtOAc (3×10 mL). The organic layers were combined, washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) filtered and concentrated to yield the desired product.
