Degussa 10% Pd/C (50% wet) (0.4 g) was added to the solution of 4-O-benzyl-3,6-di-O-acetyl-D-glucose (5 mmol) in ethanol (50 mL). Obtained mixture was hydrogenated at room temperature using Paar apparatus with hydrogen (45 psi) After 12 hr reaction was completed (TLC), catalyst was filtered off and the solvent was evaporated to give a crude product. Product was purified by column chromatography (SilicaGel 60 Merck), using hexanes:ethyl acetate as eluent.
