To a solution of 2-bromo-9H-fluoren-9-one (100 mg, 0.39 mmol) in EtOH (10 mL) and water (3 mL) was added hydroxylamine hydrochloride (54 mg, 0.77 mmol). The mixture was then heated to reflux for 1 h. The solvent was then removed in vacuo, and to the residue was added aqueous NaHCO3. The solid was then filtered and dried to give the title product. LRMS (M+H)+ 274.2.
