Procedure

To a solution of tert-butyl ({4-fluoro-1-(phenylsulfonyl)-5-[2-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-3-yl]-1H-pyrrol-3-yl}methyl)methylcarbamate (938 mg) in tetrahydrofuran (4 mL) and methanol (1 mL) was added a 8 mol/L aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (0.6 mL) at 0° C., and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure. Water was added to the residue, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract washed with saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate solution, water and saturated brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by basic silica gel column chromatography (eluent: hexane:ethyl acetate=4:1) to give the title compound as a yellow oil (yield 423 mg, 62%).
