8 g of 7-methyl-9-oxo-thioxanthene-3-carboxylic acid are suspended in 100 ml of toluene containing 7 drops of DMF and 7.2 g of thionyl chloride. The temperature is kept at 75-80° C. and the solution is stirred for approximately 1 hour. The reaction is completed by adding a further 2 g of SOCl2 and stirring for another ½ hour.
