Procedure

Water (36 ml) and a 1.004 mol/L aqueous hydrochloric acid solution (3.54 ml, 1.10 eq.) were added to N-{4-[2-amino-5-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)pyridin-3-yl]phenyl}-5-(4-fluorophenyl)-4-oxo-1-(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3-carboxamide (2.00 g, 3.23 mmol) at room temperature. The mixture was stirred at 40° C. for six days and then stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. The precipitated solid was collected by filtration and dried at room temperature. Water (38 ml) and a 1.004 mol/L aqueous hydrochloric acid solution (1.61 ml, 0.50 eq.) were added to the collected solid at room temperature. The mixture was stirred at 40° C. for about 12 hours and then stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. The precipitated solid was collected by filtration and then dried under reduced pressure at room temperature for three hours to give the title compound (2.19 g). Yield: 100%.
