To a solution of 2-(1H-pyrazol-3-yl)phenol (500 mg, 3.125 mmol), K2CO3 (517.5 mg, 3.75 mmol) and ethyl 2-bromoacetate (417.5 mg, 2.5 mmol) in MeCN (20 mL). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h, at which time TLC showed the completion of the reaction. The mixture was diluted with water and extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated to give the crude product which was used in next step without further purification.
