Procedure
To a solution of 3-(methylsulfonyl)-6-phenyl-5-(pyridin-3-yl)-1,2,4-triazine (0.035 g, 0.112 mmol) in a 1:1 mixture of H2O/THF (1.5 mL) was added potassium hydroxide (0.037 g, 0.560 mmol). The reaction was heated at reflux for 2 h. Upon completion, the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and neutralized with 1 M HCl, then extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were washed with H2O, brine, dried over MgSO4 and concentrated to give the title compound as a yellow solid (0.026 g) without further purification. LCMS m/z=251.1 [M+H]+.
