Procedure

(3-Cyano-4-benzyloxy-5-fluorophenyl)boronic acid and methyl 5-bromothiophene-2-carboxylate were dissolved in a mixed solution of toluene and a 2 M aqueous sodium carbonate solution and the whole was heated and refluxed for 3 hours in the presence of tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium to obtain methyl 5-(3-cyano-4-benzyloxy-5-fluorophenyl)thiophene-2-carboxylate.
