Procedure
To a solution of (±)-cis tert-butyl 6-methoxy-3,3a,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-pyrrolo[3,4-c]quinoline-2(9bH)-carboxylate (25 mg, 0.082 mmol) in 4 mL methylene chloride was added 1 mL trifluoroacetic acid. The reaction was allowed to stir at ambient temperature for 2 h and then was concentrated in vacuo to afford a TFA salt. This material was free-based by partitioning between methylene chloride and aq. ammonium hydroxide. The organics were washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to afford 10 mg (60%) of the title compound of Example 10. 1H NMR (CDCl3): δ 6.76-6.62 (m, 3H), 4.42 (broad s, 1H), 3.85 (s, 3H), 3.50-3.23 (overlapping m, 5H), 2.98-2.80 (m, 2H), 2.65-2.57 (m, 1H). LRMS (ESI): 205.3 (M+H)+.
