In 150 ml of methanol, was dissolved 30 g of methyl N-(4-methoxybenzoyl)-phenylalanyltyrosinate. After addition of 145 ml of 1 N sodium hydroxide, the mixture was stirred at 50° C for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was neutralized with hydrochloric acid, concentrated and extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with water, dried and concentrated to dryness. The residue was crystallized from ethyl acetate to give 23.9 g of N-(4-methoxybenzoyl)-phenylalanyltyrosine with a mp. 198°-200° C in a yield of 82%. Analysis, calculated for CZ26H26O6N2C 67.52, H 5.67, N 6.06, found C 67.17, H 5.69, N 5.95.
