Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Hydrogen Bromide | HCID 260 | — |
| Reactant | Hydrochloric Acid | HCID 313 | — |
| Reactant | HCID 21398994 | HCID 21398994 | — |
| Product | Benzenepropanol, β-amino-3-hydroxy-, hydrobromide (1:1) | HCID 21399008 | — |
Reaction Steps
8 gm of the hydrochloride obtained in (a) were admixed with 80 ml of 48% hydrobromic acid, and the mixture was refluxed for one hour. Thereafter, the reaction mixture was evaporated to dryness, the residue was stripped of water by entrainment with xylene, the solvent was distilled off, and the residue was recrystallized from ethyl acetate, yielding 6 gm (66% of theory) of the compound of the formula ##STR9## which had a melting point of 150°-152° C.
