Procedure

tert-Butyl 4-(3-pyridin-2-yl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)piperidine-1-carboxylate (1.46 g, 4.45 mmol) was dissolved in 15 ml DCM. Trifluoroacetic acid (5 ml) was added gradually and the resulting solution was stirred at ambient temperature for 3 h and was then concentrated in vacuo. The residue was dissolved in 4:1 MeOH/water and treated with MP-carbonate resin (5 g, 2.55 mmol/g). After stirring overnight the reaction was filtered and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to provide 1.1 g of 2-(3-piperidin-4-yl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)pyridine (1-4) as a tan solid. δ 8.56 (d, J=3.9 Hz, 1H), 7.84 (m, 2H), 7.21 (m, 1H), 6.65 (s, 1H), 3.22 (m, 3H), 2.87 (m, 2H), 2.03 (d, J=12.8 Hz, 2H), 1.71 (d, J=10.3 Hz, 2H). m/z (m+1): 229.3,
