Procedure

To a solution of 5-{[(2,3-dichlorophenyl)sulphonyl]amino}-6-methoxypyrazine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid, dimethyl ester (Example 211b, 0.5 g) dissolved in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (20 mL) at 0° C. was added a solution of lithium triethylborohydride (Super is hydride®) (5.55 mL of a 1M solution in tetrahydrofuran) and the resulting solution was stirred for 1 hour. The reaction was quenched by the addition of 1N hydrochloric acid (10 mL) and extracted into ethyl acetate (2×20 mL). The combined extracts were dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated to afford an oil that was purified by chromatography on silica gel eluting with ethyl acetate/dichloromethane mixtures to afford the titled compound (0.201 g) as a foam.
